Scotland, the Picts, and Make It Edmonton

We have just returned from a few weeks in Scotland where we were supposed to be visiting my family. Unfortunately we couldn’t do half of what we planned to do, due to catching a nasty respiratory virus for two out of our three weeks away. Luckily our wee daughter escaped it. We did take some of our favourite pewter pieces over the big Pond to show friends and family, and also for my dad to photograph. You can find some of his photographs on our Facebook page and website. We wanted ancient mossy gravestones as our backdrop, so we used the churchyard where we were married in the Glen, near where I grew up.
The area I grew up in – Angus in Scotland – has a strong Pictish history. Ancient stones carved by the Picts still exist and can be found in museums locally, and also still as standing stones in the countryside. These beautiful Pictish carvings have provided us with some inspiration for new bowl designs. I love some of the knotwork and symbols, but no-one knows for sure what they actually meant.
While in Scotland we received the amazing news that we have been accepted to show and sell our pewter at Make It Edmonton, a fantastic craft show full of handmade items. It’s going to be a very busy 3 weeks for us till the show on 11-13 April. Be sure to check out the show at the Enjoy Centre, St Albert and remember to stop our booth to say hi. Our booth is #60.
